Yes, Definaltly check the thermostat, and no IF it's the orginal heads on the car and haven't been rebuilt, leaded gas is fine, the car actually needs leaded gas.

Yeah, I wish I could still buy leaded gas. I have to use a lead additive.

..the gauges (sometimes) are moving when I hit the gas and when I leave it..

Anyway, I`ll try to change the unit to 180 dgree also, what came original with the car?

Is the shroud is really important ?

I forgot to mention that I`m using leaded fuel is that good also?

Thank you!
Eran.
If the gagues are moving with the increased output of the alternator/generator then you may want to check the resistor on your instrument panel. You'll need to take the panel out to get to it unless you're very very flexible and have X-ray vision. Once you have it out you may as well replace it anyway. The resistor regulates the current going to your fuel gague (if that doesn't work either then you found your culprit) and coolant gague. If it's bad, then chances are your two gagues are as well. Replacing the sending unit is cheap and easy too, so you may want to look there.

Stock T-stat is probably a 190-195. Having it run that 10 degrees cooler only helps you out, they ran hotter for emissions purposes.

Shroud.. I can't personally attest to it being useful, I have run several vehicles without one, but not V8's. I'd go with everyone elses opinions though, they actually own running mustangs

Leaded fuel?!?! Hook a brother up!

Yes, i have to buy leaded subs. too. Actually i just started buying it, but better late then never, unless the seals are already gone, hope not.

Don't trust the stock gauge. It might be the problem. I have a similar car (289) with a stock radiator, AC, and no shroud and my car runs about 185 F. There is a replacement gauge on my car and it works fine. My original gauge has a mind of its own, some times it's zero and other times it's pegged.

If you know someone with a temperature gun, measure the radiator to confirm the temp of the radiator. Also take the car for a drive the car without the thermostat installed. See what happens. If it runs cool then maybe your thermostat is the problem. No change, then something else might be wrong. Occassionally new thermostats can be broken.

Hi

didnt chked it yet but I as far as I understoond the problem comes from the voltage regulator, maybe at the back of gauge or in the Bigger box over there..

I`ll have to chk it out.
What do you think I already changed the fan into 5 blades, should I make it 7 ?

I must say that the car/gauge doesnt heat as before with the elevetric fan and 5 blade fan without the shroud, but I think I`ll install one anyway...Just in case, Its pretty hot in here.

Thanks.
Eran.

It's possible that it's a bad voltage regulator, but more probably to be the gague resistor. When you get the car going without the overheating/gague problem then decide if you need to put more work in to it. I know it get's hot, I'm only about 4-500 miles away, so it can't be much different than it is here. With the 3 core, cooler tstat, and all the other attention you've given the car, it shouldn't be a problem.

Questions...Does it over heat all the time or just in stop and go traffic?

If only in stop and go traffic that the water is not being cooled enough at low speeds. If it over heats all the time it’s the radiator. The shroud in a 65/66 is no big deal as my 65 never had one and even with a modified motor, it has never over heated.

Oh, I don't know about that, Vincent. Old Yeller was running about 200+ degrees in stop and go, but after I put on the shroud, it dropped it to around 185-190. Not a whole lot of difference, but enough to keep me from worrying about it. It's a cheap fix. Try it, and you might get a cooler running car too. It just makes sense to pull all the outside air in through the radiator, and not over, under, around the sides and through it.
