Default coil spring installation safety question

Will the coil spring really stay on the spring seats without the shock installed? Is it safe to be working around the spring in this condition? I am afraid that when I install the shock the spring could slip out of the seats.

I have loosened the struts and detached the sway bar to allow the control arms to drop as much a possible so I do not have to compress the spring as much. Should I tighten the struts and reconnect the sway bar to give the control arms plenty of support while holding the spring in place?

Yes, it is safe to have the shocks out while working around the suspension. The stock springs will stay firmly in place. Even if you have drop springs, by the time they get loose enough to rock out of place, they won't have enough tension on them to go flying anywhere, they'll just fall out.

You can't remove the springs without removing the shocks (there are no 'struts' on the car), so leave everything disconnected.

or if your scared wrap a chain around one of the top coils and bottem coils like they used to to drop low riders way back when. that will keep it compressed with no chance of it shooting anywhere.
