Picked up the trans today and I think I got really lucky. The guy I picked it up from was really cool and had a really nice 60's Bronco he was putting the motor in.

But anyways it seems this T5 was just serviced and everything came off complete. The clutch seems to be brand new, you still can see the machining on it. Can anybody tell what clutch it is by looking at it by chance? Then it obviously has not moved much since it was put back together because the input shaft still has what looks like grease that is still nicely colored and hasn't moved much.

It came with the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, fork, driveshaft yoke. So it seems I just now need the linkage, flywheel and pilot bearing.

The grime on things is thanks to the motor having a leaky PS pump and causing road crap to get all over. What would be the best way to get this crud off without damaging seals or anything? I'm wary to use brake cleaner, I was thinking engine degreaser.

I'm actually impressed with the quality of this last picture, that was my phone.

Looks like you're on a roll. Couple of small extra things to consider at this point. You said the T5 was 'serviced'... did this include changing out the rear yoke seal? if not, now's a good time to replace it. It's cheap and easy. Also, did you pick up a T5 block off plate to go between the block and the flywheel? Need one of those. Another good thing to do 'while you're here' is to swap the factory aluminum throwout bearing retainer collar for a steel unit. They're about $25 bucks. Also, you'll need a driveshaft yoke that mates to a T-5. Check out Glen Buzek's T-5 swap stuff at http://www.rosehillperformanceparts.com/ He's got lots of this oddball stuff and is a bud of mine.

Also, what are your plans for a shifter? Check out Pro50 shifters on Fleabay....

Here's my T-5 in my 65 console. I'm running a B&M Ripper Shfter with a Hurst handle.

I would pick up a couple cans of engine degreaser and blast away, maybe use a bristle brush if need be to get it really clean. That won't hurt anything.

Dude dont forget to replace the tailshaft bushing....

When you replace the oil seal on the tailshaft check the bushing.. if it doesn't look bran new replace it. Its a pretty easy job outside the car. Cant be done once installed.

MAKE SURE you test fit the DS into the tail housing before installing the trans even if you didnt replace the tailshaft bushing.

I don't know what was exactly done, I was just saying it appeared that it was just serviced with the new clutch. So I don't know if the rear yoke seal was replaced or not so I guess it would be a good idea to look into. Do you happen to have a helpful link for servicing a T5? All I seem to find are Jeep part websites.

I did get the block plate and a T5 yoke. I haven't made plans for a shifter yet but yours does look nice.

Same question, good link for servicing a T5? And the driveshaft should fit because it is a T5 yoke but I will definitely test fit and make sure I have everything when I begin this.

For the bolts for mounting the bellhousing to the motor, are they the same? Can I reuse the bolts from the 5.0 and T5 or my 289?

shoot Glen a note at Rosehill Performance. He can give you some good advice on what needs to be done.

Just a quick question of should I bother right now? It was running great in the car before it was pulled and I plan on having it in for this summer for the occasional drive and this fall/winter deconstruct the car for paint and restoration. In your opinion if its running fine now and will do a fill rebuild in a few months would you consider it worth it? Mostly wondering if it would be a waste for the few thousand miles I would put on it then completely rebuild.

Depends on what your time/budget plans are. If you've got the time/money now, why not just fix it up nice and know it's good come the later work time. If not, then hold off and do it all when you rebuild the car.

Money isn't the issue but time is. I hopefully am going to be moving back to the east coast soon than later, new job, so I was hoping to get some welding done and put the transmission before I drive coast to coast, not the car, it would be trailered but the trans would be one thing less to pack. I won't be able to touch anything most this week and plus I will be losing this weekend to work on my car because I have drill and sadly the auto hobby shop on base won't be open for me, I hope to take it down to Vandenberg to take advantage of the lifts on base next week.

But I did check out Rosehill Performance, good information. I will hopefully get around to emailing them tonight at work which I need to start getting ready for.

been following this tread closely as i just got a line on a T5 my self, what about the bell housing? what mods need to be done? better to use the old bell or use the bell from the T5? If i have it right the T5 bell needs to be drilled and taped to mount to the 289 or the 289 bell needs an adapter plate. whats the best way to go? (BTW i dont want to go the cable linkage way at this moment)
Thanks
