Default 71-73 Guages

I have a 73 mach 1 that originally came with a standard gauge package with idiot lights and no tach, the car came with a nice gauge package from a 71 mach 1 including the center console gauges and tach I’m trying to find out for certain that I can perform the job with the right plug and a little solder. I’ve heard so many things from parts vendors who don’t know anything about what there selling, that I thought I should ask someone who knows something about mustangs what I need to know is A) is it possible and B) where do I get what I need. It seems like everything on these cars is impossible to find.

Hey newbie, welcome to the classic forum. Not sure what your question is. Are you asking how to hook up the center console tach? Or what?

Well I’m capable of doing all the wiring I know that a lot of it is just color matching sand soldering, and I know how to run a Tach wire, but I’m having a hard time picturing how to wire the center console gauges, and I still don’t have the plug I need to do the swap out anyway. Painless Wiring pointed me to a company called M&H who specializes in OEM wiring so hopefully that wont be a problem.

Your Mustang has the capability of adding the wiring harness from you console to the under dash wiring harness. You don't need to add any other wiring.

I have a 73 Mustang with the entire gauge package and tach stock.

I would tell you to go ahead and replace all of your wiring. My tach is intermittent and I have had to rewire the connector for the voltage regulator. Go ahead and do it once right. This winter I am probably going to replace all of my wiring with painless.

If you have specific questions, let me know. I have messed with all of the wiring.

My tack and temperature sensor both come from a major harness from the firewall that also has some of the ignition wiring to it. I would think someone would make it.
