68 ignition problem!

Default 68 ignition problem!

I changed the altenator on my 68, hooked everything back up, and nothing!! No click, no nothing!!! I had the starter checked, its good, I changed the ignition solenoid and its good. I checked the battery and its good. I turned on the lights and turned the key and the lights stayed on strong. I tried to cross the solenoid, nothing. I even changed the positive cable from the battery. I have not changed the cable to the starter,but could it be that easy?? What am I missing here???

Using an insulated screwdriver, jump the left larger terminal on the solenoid to the small terminal directly adjascent, labeled 'S.' If you get a click, the solenoid is good. If not, it's toast.

If you get a click and the starter doesn't turn over, either current isn't getting to the battery, or the starter is dead. Check your connections between the large terminal on the right of the solenoid all the way down to the starter. Use a voltmeter to see if you're getting voltage at the terminal on the starter. If not, likely your starter cable is bad.

How long has the car been sitting without being started

I suggest NOT to use a screwdriver.

Invest $5.00 at harbor freight and buy a remote starter to do it safely.
Sparks can blow batteries up when you least expect it.

True....the screwdriver is the backyard mechanic's way of doing things. I've never had a battery explode, but it does happen. That said, if the battery hasn't been charged/discharged recently, and if the area is ventilated, there shouldn't be an excessive hydrogen buildup around the battery.
