Default PLEASE HELP!!torque converter bolt distance?

my brother is dropping in a new 289 into his A/T 65' stang he is short on time and needs to order the correct torque converter replacement for stock tranny. and have it there when they pull the engine.

what is the correct bolt distance im pretty sure it is a six bolt but i was given 3 different sizes for the bolt distance 9.5 10.5 & 11.5

can anybody give me the right bolt distance for his A/T 289 65' pretty sure that it is not the early model 65.
(AUTO IS ON THE FLOOR IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE or helps?)
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!!!!

my bolts are about 7 1/2 apart and that is a 65 as well. Look at you flex plate and measure the distance.

They measure it across, diagonally. The popular one is the 10.5 with the 157 tooth. The 11 7/16" was started in the trucks with the 164 tooth flexplate. Measure your flexplate diagonally and it ,most likely is 10.5". The trans should have the dipstick in the case. If the dipstick goes in the pan, you have a flair case which uses the 11 7/16" torque converter. The step case with the dipstick in the case uses the 10.5" Do not mix them, they are different depths! Hope I helped.
