I recently rebuilt the pedals in my 4 speed '65 coupe, and after a couple days of use, I noticed that the clutch pedal was working it's way out of the pedal support. I pulled the pedals back out of the car and noticed that I had installed the clutch pedal return spring backwards. I reinstalled the spring correctly, but the clutch pedal still seems to be working it's way out of the pedal support. Has anyone had this problem before or know why it may be doing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.
The pedal shaft is held in the support by a spring clip at the end of the shaft. If that clip is missing, the pedal will work its way out of the support.
I don't understand how the pedal is working its way out of the shaft while the clip is installed. It's not physically possible. The clip goes through a hole in the end of the shaft and keeps it from moving anywhere. If the shaft moved, the clip isn't there.
I installed new bushings and freshly greased it a week ago. Should I just drill a hole in the shaft and put a cotter pin through it with a nice big washer behind it?
