I believe they are off part cars. You can call and check. I would assume they would need a rebuild too.

Last time I talked with someone over at Scroggins it was about $350 to rebuild heads but I know a guy who is closer and can probably do it for that if not a few bucks cheaper.

Might be easier to buy the ported 289 heads that don't need a rebuild but not sure how much difference ported verse no ported would make performance wise.

Unless your going with a Forced Induction (Blower) Your not gonna see a BIG improvement with heads. Dont get me wrong, there are some gains, but you need to weigh out the options and the amount of money your gonna spend for the return you'll get in hp.

My thought's would be to have your stock heads reworked, get some higher compression pistons, headers, a nice mild cam, good carb, and intake-manifold and call it good.

...have you looked at a set of stock 289 heads? They have absolutely horrible port castings, especially on the exhaust side. An exhaust port-match alone makes a big difference, and a set of decent flowing heads with a cam that takes advantage of them will make a big difference. Not a 5hp gain, but closer to 30 or 40hp depending on the motor and cam.

check out flow numbers for stock 289 head
165/107 at 0.5 lift.

so if rework doesn't mean reinventing those heads, you'll need to do a _lot_ of work to get them anywhere near any cheap aftermarket head

As for induction needed. a stock 2barrell 289 is around 170 honest flywheel HP. with a good combination of cam, intake, head and carb you can get 300HP+ without having to rev past 5500

I think what I am going to do is go with the World products Windsor Jr's.

I can pick them up assembled at Summit for $439 each and when I called they said the shipping is free minus $11.95 for handling charge.

I was looking at these heads last night on a different website and they literally went up $30 over night so better get them while the getting is good...inflation, gotta love it.

It's strange to me...most of these parts are not items people "have to" have when the economy stinks. My guess is most people are buying either for an upgrade or for their toy and probably often as an upgrade for their toy.

You would think prices would stay flat or go down but they seem to be going up fairly quickly.

Well, the Windsor Jr prices haven't gone up in over a year. That $400/ea price was from a few years ago while I was building my engine (and should've bought them).
