Whining
If all you have to worry about is some whining noises coming out of the rear of a 66 Mustang with probably a zillion miles on it, you don't have any worries. That thing will keep cadillacing for many years to come even with the worn parts. It's just a fact of life with these old cars. Don't worry about it or fix it til it breaks. "if'n it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Then you probably have some dried up bearings. As has been suggested, change the diff. oil with some 85 weight synthetic and make sure it is full. That ought to lube those bearings so they don't squawk on you. After sitting for 15 years, the old 85 weight oil tends to get real gummy and may even have some water from condensation in it. After sitting for 15 years, you should have changed all the fluids before driving it in the first place. Dang kid, buy you books, send you to school, and you still can't read.
Yeah, I plan on buying the lube as soon as i can. I know i should have changed the fluids, but i never did. I probably should change the transmission fluid to when i get the chance.
