Default '68 Autometer gauge setup...

For my '68 Shelby I decided to go with some autometer Ultra-Lite's. I got a tachometer, spedometer, volt, water temp, oil pressure, vaccum, fuel gauge. The water temp, fuel, and volt are going to go on the bezel and the vaccum and oil pressure are going to go on the windshield pillar. I would have put the tachometer and spedometer in but I thought it was a 3 3/8. What size are the tach and spedometer? I have figured out away to mount the gauges to this aftermarket bezel but am confused on what this piece is supposed to do for cars with aftermarket bezels? Besides that they look amazing and i'll be ready to go once I return the other gauges. I also purchased a flaming river steering column from ebay for about $475 with all of the joints. I went with the leccarra wood wheel but it was on back order (($375 from Summit) hopefully it should be here sometime this month.

They should be 5" gauges.

Does anyone have any idea what that plastic adapter for autometer gauges does?

I've got some pics that might help. I put Autometers in my 67. I started with a new bezel and the old gage cluster. I used the stamped steel backing from the old gage cluster to mount the new Autometers in to. Also used the old wiring that need to be modified.

The holes in the stamped steel backing from the original had to be cut out bigger to accept the larger gages. Them I made L brackets to attach the gages to the backing. The Bezel also had to be carved out some on the back where you can't see it to get the Speedo and Tach to fit. I think you can see most everything you need to in the pics.
