Rear leaf spring help 68 Coupe
Hey guys, need some help. I am in the middle of replacing the rear leaf springs and all was going great actually untill the front bolt decieded to be stubborn. I got all the bolts/nuts off the back and middle. and i got the front nut off, and i can TURN the bolt from the inside of the frame area, but can't get it to come OUT to get the spring out.....how do i get the bolt out? There is NO room on the outside to hammer it out...please advise!! Thanks! James
The steel tube in the center of the eye bushing has rust-seized itself to the eye bolt. Cut across the eye in the spring with a cutoff wheel, so the spring eye comes off like a clamshell. Then cut through the eye bushing with a cutoff wheel, taking care not to damage the car frame. Once you've done this, a little tapping should be all it needs.

As to removing the bolt, good luck getting a hacksaw through a grade 8 bolt, especially with the hacksaw against the frame pocket. The blade will go through the frame like butter, but the bolt will murder the blade.
Well, the $185 kit I mention occasionally comes with the bolt.

Thanks for your help. You have atleast saved me the aggravation of trying to saw through the bolt. I will take your advice on this, putting this project off to next weekend, and onto others that are much less complicated...
Try spraying some WD40 into the bolt and letting it soak for a while and then applying pressure using a C-clamp on the bolt. If it retracts thru the hole, that is the threaded portion unexposed, you can use a drift to punch it out.
I upgraded my rear leaf springs last month (visit my web site below signature block) and I had not much of a problem with the front bolts except that I had to use a drift to push out the bolts out of the frame as far out as possible and wrenching it off.
