Question Question about installing fuel pump.

I recently had to replace my original mechanical fuel pump on my '65's 289 due to the old one springing a leak. The motor in my car has been rebuilt outside of two things, the fuel pump and the carb. When the carb was rebuilt, I was told it wouldn't be long, it is reaching the end of its run. It is the original carb that came on the car and I assumed it would be due to the age of it. To make a long story short, I've replaced the fuel pump and now I'm getting an extreme surplus of fuel being delivered to my carb. My question is, did I screw up and install the fuel pump incorrectly or has my carb kicked over on me? The fuel isn't being dumped into the bowl, its coming from the raised area on the front/top of the carb and shooting into the carb. That little rounded off nubbin aimed toward the center. (I'm so not mechanical, can you tell? I'm trying here though folks.) I'm not sure if I could have incorrectly installed it and its just pumping too much due to my incompetence. Any thoughts?

The float is sticking open. Either the needle/seat have debris in them, or the fuel pump is putting out way too much pressure.

I'm not sure what you mean about where the fuel is coming out. What carburetor? Take a picture and post it. But yeah, typically a too much fuel coming out of places is crap stuck open or excessive fuel pressure.

Check your fuel pressure, it shouldn't be over 6-7psi, if it's ok then it's probably a needle and seat that's jacked up and sticking open.

I've never checked fuel pressure before. Complicated?

The more I do with my car, the more I learn I should stick to the medical field!

If the fuel pump is a performance unit, (Edelbrock, Carter, etc.) you will probably need a pressure regulator to drop the pressure to acceptable levels, if you installed a "stock replacement" it is likely a stuck needle valve or float in the carb.
