It is different every time. In between 4.6-5.4 so far with the coil connected. Coil not connected I get 12.4. When the coil is connected it gets are 5 (give or take a little, more give than take). Could a bad coil be the source of our woes??!!?! lol

Yeah I'm starting to wonder...

But what I meant was check the resistance (ohms) of the S term wire to the negative battery terminal.

Ok so I finally wiggled the left firewall connector off. With the battery disconnected and the ignition off, I tested the resistance between the S term wire (at the solenoid)and the different terminals of the connector at the firewall. At least one of them has 0 ohms of resistance, and at least a couple more have like 200 ohms of resistance.

Does this make sense?

If it doesn't, then is it possible the wiring harness melted somewhere and fused some wires together?

IT STARTS!!!!

I realized after my last post that those two terminals that I got 200 resistance on are the oil pressure sensor and the engine temerature sensor, which are grounded to the engine.

Then I went searching for more wiring diagrams because I found that two of mine disagreed with each other on the S and I wire colors.

I found another wire diagram that said brown on I and red-blue on S. Turns out this demo wiring diagram I downloaded is incorrect, so I had those two mixed up. Switched them back and she fired right up. Now I'm waiting for my dad to get home so we can listen for oil returning to the rockers and see if the starter is still running.

damn I am so jealous right now haha.

I reconnected everything and put on all the new stuff; starter cable, voltage regulator, solenoid, and I made a wiring harness EXACTLY like the one I posted on the other thread. I got 6.2 at the S wire. This is so depressing.

So all you did was switch those 2 wires around? I wish that was my problem lol. I went under the dash/steering wheel area today to look at the wires and tried to located the color of the ignition and I could not even find it.

Canary how did you replace your ignition switch?

Flash, are you ABSOLUTELY sure you did not cross those two wires (S and I at the starter solenoid)? I was pretty sure I didn't, but I was wrong.

To replace the ignition switch, I first removed the instrument panel so I could have access to it (you could probably access it from below if you tried hard enough). Next, inserted my key and turned it to accessory, then inserted a paperclip about 1/8" into the pinhole on the lock cylinder and turned counterclockwise and it popped out. Then I took the ignition switch and turned it about 1/8 turn clockwise. From there, I removed the bezel on the front, then removed all the wires (made sure to label them) and put them on the new one. Then I put it back on with the bezel and turned it 1/8 counterclockwise, then inserted the lock cylinder and turned the key back to off.

It may be slightly different for you since my Mustang is a '65, so I can't be sure. You might want to find a manual or search Google for "70 mustang ignition switch replacement" or something.

It's been a long road but, I think we are narrowing it down.

That's what happens when we start to assume things. Glad you got it figured out.

Flash, what color wire it on yours?

1 blue 1 brown. The brown wire is the one that gets 6.2 at it and the blue gets nothing. I already tried switching them. Nothing.
One thing that has changed since I reconnected everything is that the brake light on the instrument panel goes on. Also when I pull out the Headlight thing a red mustang and both turn signals light up now. I can not get the headlights to turn on though. They are halogen so I am guessing the car must be running for them to turn on with all the power they use.

The red horse means that your high beams are on. Hit the dimmer switch a few times and see if your light work then.

I'll have to think about the blue wire, brown wire thing and get back to you. Does the blue have a red stripe?

This isn't right. The coil will share a connection with the I term but, not the S. The I term is to send 12v to the coil while cranking.

What color wire is on your coil?

We should start another thread for this one so it doesn't get too confusing.
