No the blue does not have a red stripe. The previous owner attempted to do some new wiring it seems and did not use the correct colors for everything. I had to get a diagram and follow the wires all over the place to make sure I had the right ones.
The color of the wire from the harness to the coil is green with red stripe. This part of the harness I bought new. It includes the oil and temp gauges as well. I am almost 100% they are the right wires.
I was going to try and replace the ignition switch like canary did but it looks extremely confusing on the 1970.
What do you think the problem is?

I'm not sure. That's why I wanted to start a new thread but, this will work for now. Can you give me some history of the car? (not the life story, just the highlights) How long have you had it? What have you done to it? Has it run before, or are you piecing it together? I figured someone had gotten into it and "modified" some wiring...If you can, see if you can find the wire that the blue wire is spliced into. Theree are 2 reasons for this. To make sure he came from the right wire (I think it should be red/green) and to check the connection that was made. Sounds like you have the right setup for the coil though.

You can remove the whole ignition switch by unscrewing the bezel and taking it out the back of the dash. Can't remember off hand how to get the lock out of it. I would have to go look at mine. Did you get the lights to work?

I know....that's a lot...

I have had it for about 2 and half years. Complete engine rebuild done by a machine shop. I did all the body work and interior. Left the wiring as the previous owner had it. It started up when I first got it but it was extremely rough. And the engine had huge miles on it. I rebuilt carb and transmission.

Also the 70 ignition system is when the new ignition system/layout started. It is when the locking wheel and stuff was added to I think. In order to get the ignition system out I have to remove the wheel and all the parts of the steering column to get access to the wires and the system.

I will attempt to trace the wires soon. You said the I wire should trace back somehow to the coil to provide power to it? And the S wire should trace back to a red green or blue red wire? I will let you know what I find.

Thanks for the continued help.

Okay here it goes...

The I wire, brown wire, goes to the part of the harness that the engine gauge/coil wires go to.

The S wire, red and blue wire, goes to the neutral safety switch.

Battery wire, is a larger than most black wire(probably 12 gauge or something) goes to a port and turns into another large black wire and a red wire. The red wire goes directly into the firewall and the black wire later turns into 1 yellow wire and 1 black wire that both go into the firewall.

I have followed all the wires to the firewall. I can not see the wires very well inside the car as they are covered up but some sort of tubing.
Each wire has at least 1 or 2 splices that after taking off the electrical tape were just bare wire spliced. Later I will go to the store and buy proper slice pieces and redo them.

I don't mean to insult you, but are you sure you don't have your I and S wires switched at the starter solenoid? it is easy to overlook and it would cause your problem...Jeff

O.K. I do think the wires are switched like Canary had. Only thing it that you have no power on the one. For that, go back to the nss. I don't know the colors that go in/out but you should see power going in when you turn the key. If you can't get it to come out, the switch is bad or misadjusted.

I forgot they moved the switch the the column.

Yes I am sure. I quadruple checked myself when Canary found that was his problem. There are 9 splices that were done incorrectly. I bought heatshrink splices. And you would not insult me do not worry. I can get the starter going but in order to do that I have to disconnect the coil. It is weird.

The S and I wires sound correct to me if Ford used the same color wires on the 70 as the 65, which I wouldn't doubt they did. I have a red-blue connected to the S and a brown connected to the I.

You mean there were 9 splices on that wiring harness to the solenoid that were done incorrectly and you fixed them?

I have not fixed them yet. Later tonight I will. I bought heat shrink splices to correctly splice them. I also believe from looking at it that the gauge of the wire from the harness to the positive battery side of the solenoid was wrong so I bought a larger 10 gauge wire.

There are so many splices on these wires that were just done with electrical tape that it is not funny at all. I may just take out a huge section and just make it 1 splice near the firewall. I have not decided yet.

Hmm, doesn't this harness you are talking about plug right into the firewall? I see a replacement harness at Mustangs Unlimited for a '70 302 for just $21.95. However, I don't know if that is the right one or if it is even an option for you.
