Default Paint Help

Well the 1966 Coupes ready for paint and I could sure use some help.
I know 2 things I want it red and I would like it to be a paint that is easy to match and blend, afterall it will be a driver. So please if anyone has seen a really cool shade of red let me know, and perhaps a little info. on pearls and candies, single stage, waterborne ect ect... I would really appreiciate it.
PS the cars a restomod so keeping the stock colours is not a concern

THANKS KEN

You can't really blend a pearl or candy reliably. If you ever have to patch anything, it'll be almost impossible to match the rest of the car. Even metallics are difficult, but a good painter will be able to blend a metallic two-stage.

Two-stage urethane paints are pretty much the way to go. Modern clear coats have UV protectants that keep the paint from fading while giving it a nice gloss.

Waterborne stuff works, but it's different from other paints and not all painters are familiar with it or equipped to use it. Honestly, I'd try to stay away from it unless it's required in your area (like it is here).

As far as the actual color, I'd recommend looking at all of the cars you see on the road and writing down makes/models and approximate years of cars with colors you like. Any good paint shop will be able to match the factory paint of any car you pick out.

I agree with everything Starfury said about pearls and metallics.

Car dealers thought I was nuts. I would drive on to the lot and they would come out and I would say that I didn't need any help, just looking at colors! Of course more times than not I would have to explain what I was doing.

I really liked my sons 95 GT Rio Red but it was a tri-stage paint. Not much tougher to paint but more expensive than 2 stage. I just wanted to go with a 2 stage B/C. I ended up with 2006 Mustang GT Colorado red.

There are so many shades of red. I looked at some that were great in full sun and looked orange under street lights. I wanted a bright true red.

Something else I did was a white sealer. It really makes the red paint pop. If you are using a good quality paint it will cover with 2-3 coats.

Good luck.

A nice red is "Corvette Red". The actual color is 1980 GM Red (only Corvette). That's why it's always referred to as Corvette red. You can probably do an internet search for it. It's a very red red
