Gauges inop!!!!
That last reply I sent was the link I found about the alternator connections. The little picture is what I have and if you scroll down to the 3g it shows step by step how to connect. I found the little white wire hidden under elect tape and the minute I connected that I got power from the alternator to the battery. Now the issue is that yellow wire, I have not tracked it down yet cause it disappears into two other splices and goes under the radiator. The instruction said the red/green goes to the instruments but my car does not have a red/green unless it is still hidded from me.
If you found 12 volts on the INPUT (connector with 1 wire on it) and zero volts on the output (connector with 2 wires) then the instrument voltage regulator (IVR) is bad. You should see a pulsating signal on the output post of the IVR.
The contacts inside can fail in open or closed position
Open: No voltage will show "zero" on gauge
Closed: 12 volts and gauges "full" scale
You can get a replacement from a local parts dealer or an online Mustang dealer. The new ones tend to go bad fast. I went through 2 of them.
Here is how I built a solid sate one for a few dollars:

Here is the wiring diagram for the instrument gauges:
