A stud girdle keeps the rocker studs from flexing and ultimately breaking off. This is generally not an issue unless you have some gargantuan valve spring pressures, which you will not have with a hydraulic cam of any kind so not neccessary for your motor. Besides, if you don't have the right valve covers, you can have clearance issues. Your block does have the holes drilled in the lifter valley for securing the lifter spyder, correct? If not, you are going to need to do that in order to run the hydraulic roller lifters unless you get link bar lifters which are very expensive.

Stud girdle? Nope you don't need it. I'd invest in a hardened oil pump shaft and a windage tray though.

Ok no stud girdle, I did upgrade to 7/16 studs though. Everything should be good to go for this weekend. I just torn right now with the whole aod 1 piece vs 2 piece input shaft and lockup vs non-lockup. Also trying to find how difficult it is to change the input shaft.

Cool...we are going to start on Sat. Hopefully have it finished late Sun. Maybe Mon because we are going to clean up the bay as well. Ill take a ton of pics and post them all.

Is it a good idea to port match the intake to the heads. Does the airgap intake or the heads need to be opened up?

its always a good idea to port match, but if you do your going to be ripping the heads back apart and cleaning them again unless you want crap going down into your new motor (oh noes!!!)

Installed the camshaft...when I push the cam all the way in it does not line up properly with the lifter bores. The cam needs to be pulled out about 1/8th to line up properly. What gives?
