How much is this to do from a glass shop? My wife's Honda Pilot had a crack and it was like $120 bucks to replace it. Or, do you just want to do it yourself?

I kinda want to do it myself, but I also am not sure I trust the guys at a glass shop to work on a 42 year old car when they mostly see 5 year old cars. I can get the glass locally for about $200, gasket for $25, sealer for about $10, new clips for about $10. So I'm looking at about $250 to do it myself. Earlier I called one glass place when they did the windshield for my minivan, and they told me to bring the car in, but they weren't sure they could even do it. Gotta get some cash, then I'll give it a try myself!

Why would they say they could not do it? Isn't a windshield pretty much the same on modern cars? I remember when a family car windshield broke the people came to our house and did it in like 30-40mins and said just not to drive it for a little bit.

I got my windsheild replaced for under $200, i got a pretty good deal on it as the owner liked classic cars (he was also the installer). They didnt seal it for me but still a great deal as the glass alone was $230 plus shipping. I would ask around a little bit, you might save time and money unless you just want to do it yourself.

Be careful with these so called professional glass shops. I called elite auto glass, they are advertised everywhere saying they are the auto glass professionals. I arranged for a guy to come out, stating beforehand what year of car it was and that I wanted someone who was familiar with the rubber gasket type of windshield installations, even though this was a rear window install, they still go in basically the same way. The guy shows up and installs the rear window with no sealant, he just put the gasket around the glass and put it in the car. I told him about the sealant, etc. and he said there wasn't any required. I thought what an idiot, who is this guy and where did he come from. Before he left, we water tested it, and of course it leaked like a siv. He then proceeded to use sealant, said it took time to set. The next day I water tested it again, it still leaked. Well, he's been out three times and it still leaks. I am trying to get my money back. I refuse to have this guy do anymore work on my car.

I did talk to another glass shop, the owner, told him the story and said the glass will need to be completely removed, cleaned, and installed properly, using the proper sealant. So I will either take to him, or do it myself. I should have done it myself from the get go. Good luck with yours.

Yeah, the glass and seal go on dry, but then you inject 3M Glass Bedding Compound into the glass side, and the pinchweld side, and install the moulding.
