Tire Recommendation
OK Guys and Gals, I know this is about newer stangs, but I trust the knowledge here. I have a question regarding tires on my '02 GT daily driver.
I am shopping for new tires. I have not been real happy with the Goodyear eagles, especially in the rain. As I said this is my daily driver so I need an all-season performance tire. Here in south central PA we get some snow in the winter but it usually isn't too terrible, but I want a tire that has some sort of wet/snow traction rating unlike the Goodyear Eagles. If the snow gets real bad I can just call in to work and say I'm not going to be in.
So What are you running? or What do you recommend?

Just about any tire company makes an all season radial. Check for Goodyear, Goodrich Yokahama and others at http://www.tirerack.com.
Truck tires BFG, ATs are the only tires I will buy for my ram. (looks tuff, has great tracion in mud and snow and NO hiway noise, I like a quite 4x4 on road)
As for my stang and ranger.. I'm a big firestone fan, (yaya I know they blew out on explorers and all that crap but!) I've ran goodyear eagles (sucked, couldnt get traction on take off to save my life and slid in hard corners) Cooper cobras (ok tires, ok tracion, ok cornering but kinda soft or something cause I worem out really fast) and now I run Firestone Firehawks on my ranger, they are a low pro, high performance tire (used on alot of street cars) seems to work real well, tons of take off traction and the cornering performance is nice as well as I haven't got much wear out of them yet, plus they come raised white letters which looks sweeet. ... Don't know if that is what your lookin for but thats my words on tires.
*day dream sequence.....my junior year of HS*
wayback when I had my 71' El-camino, I had some tires way back in the day called Tech2000s, they were Hoosiers cheaper brand of tires, those sob's hooked up like a slick if you got em hot. I smoked em down one night before a drag race and my friend stuck his shoe on one of my tires... about didn't get it back lol. It was like gum on a sidewalk on a hot 100 degree day, man I miss that car. It would bring the front tire off the ground about 6 inches [:-] real crowd pleaser that ugly a** camino was. Everyone called the prettiest ugly car in my school. Pearl white, cowl hood, 327, 4bbl 750 holly double pumper, duel lines, hrise intake with a spacer, when I got done building it I went thru 4 trannies in a month, had to send all 4 of em to a guy to build me one lol, man those were the good ol days.

P-Zero Nero 225/55 WR 16 rear, 225/50 WR 16 front. Then for the winter 33x10.5 BFG AT TKO on an Explorer, while the beautiful Mustang sits in a carpeted garage waiting for spring to come.

These tires will really spice up your "daily drive".
I drove an 88 Mustang with these in the rain. They stuck really well. I was able to push the car hard enough to to make it drift. Very good transition with enough warning to allow me full control with throttle modulation. I will be putting these (if they still make 'em by then) on my 66. I have no clue as to how they would handle the snow, but I would think poorly. Too wide and flat to get a grip. Maybe just pick up a set of steel rims and throw some winter M+S 195/70 14's on. Probably pick up the whole set with steel wheels for less than $500.00
I still can't believe you'd actually even think of taking that car out in the snow

I think what Scott is hinting at, is that your rear wheel drive Mustang is a bobsled in the winiter. If you choose to drive it during the winter with snow and slush, you are risking having the rear end go south when you want to go North. There are other vehicles better prepared for winter driving other than rear wheel drive muscle cars.
Yes, I knew there would be winter driving issues with the 02 stang when I bought it. Fortunately we do not get a lot of bad weather here, usually only a handful of days that I would not consider driving it in. I figure if I get up in the morning and the weather is bad, I'll call out of work, if it turns bad while at the office, i'll bug out early to try to avoid the morons at rush hour. My other driving choice, would be the wife' E-150 chateau van. [&:] I think I will get tires with decent wet/snow traction rating, add some weight to the trunk and drive gently when the snow comes. And pray that some other moron doesn't take me out.
Jinxed, I loved the stock firestones on my '96 ranger. I had 2 sets that went somewhere around a total of 130K, about 65k on the first set when I blew one out. they still had pretty good tread left, but replaced all 4 at that time. My Dad has the ranger now, and he replaced the tires last year at about 130k.

a more rounded profile with aggressive tread along with the weight you mentioned would work well. My suggestion of keeping a set of winter tires was actually serious. With 100 lbs of weight in the trunk, a good set of winter snow tires and starting off in 2nd (automatic) and there's not a whole lot that little car won't go through. Plus with the 14's if it really gets nasty you can run chains w/o worrying about the body.
I would not compromise my spring through fall driving just to get a set that will work on snow. Mustangs don't go that way. If you even drive marginally aggressive and try to go with one "year round" set you'll have lousy driving all year.
Two sets is the best of both worlds. I'd be really suprised if you couldn't pick up a full set of wheels and tires for winter use for less than $500.00.
