Solenoid issue???
I just replaced the generic solenoid in my 65 w/ a new FOMOCO reproduction model. The engine turns over just fine, but it does not want to start. When I finally got it started (after a ton of gas), it died after I let off the gas. Before it would start just fine.
Does installing a new solenoid alter the timing?
Would the engine turn over if it was installed incorrectly?
I labeled the wires and installed them as they were previously on the generic one.

The solenoid has nothing to do with the gas. It's purpose is to connect 12 volts from the starter switch to the starter. That's all. It sounds as if you have a fuel issue, and not an electrical issue.
You did make sure to reconnect the run and start wires to all the correct posts on the solenoid right? The first thing to do is to just reinstall you old solenoid and see if the problem goes away.
I finally got it corrected. I had one of the wires hooked up to the wrong post. Pretty stupid I know. At least I had the sense to label each wire w/ masking tape just in case.
