I think BFG TA's are just fine for cruisers. I mean how many of us actually race or take our cars to the limit that much.

Me:P

Honestly though, it's not just that. They absolutely suck in the rain compared to modern tires. Even the Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my roommate's '97 T/A were better in the rain than my tires, and they were 275-wide 'summer only' tires.

Maybe you don't notice (like I said, soft springs will hide poor traction), but it is true. Stab the brakes in the '65 in a decent rain and see what happens. I've been in some really hairy situations because I've hydroplaned over sections of freeway or almost slid into cars pulling out in front of me.

I have not experienced any of those problems. With the TA's on my F150 I have jambed on the brakes pretty hard on the highway in the rain and did not slide or anything like that. Several times under these conditions I have always had good performance. I think they are a good value for the price.
Have you seen the reviews on Tire Rack?

I can't really say about wet driving with the 65 with them, because its not my daily driver, and doesn't really get driven much in the rain.

I'm still curious if yours are the newer ones or older ones.

Everyone I know that has them likes them whether it be on a Mustang or other classic car or even a Ford Ranger or half ton full size truck.

There are no 'newer' ones (excluding the new drag-spec Radial T/A). There is simply one Radial T/A. There are Traction T/A's, Radial Long Trail T/A's (which are designed for trucks), G-Force T/A's, and plenty of other T/A tires, but the Radial T/A hasn't been redesigned in ages.

The TA has been redesigned several times since they started making them. The manufacturer also said that within the last few years they have done other improvements to them.

Anyway, If you don't like them, then you don't like them.

I never said they were the best tire ever made, but you seem to think they are the worst. They are far from that. I have had some really lousy tires before.

I'm curious what everyone else is running. There haven't been many posts about the other tires.

ya. matter of taste. i wouldn't suggest them to anyone though.
buddy of mine is just finished restauring a 69 chevelle that was driven in the wet with those tyres. came out of a bend tad too much throttle, car was hitting a pole before he could say ****. i've driven them once in the wet in a 66 mustang and i was scared

What tires are you running Kalli?

I can't believe they are that bad. If they are then why do they work ok on my F150?

on my own car i have average tyres (ran out of money). firestone fuel savers. thought it would give the car a funny touch. they are average at everything, but in my opinion a hell of a lot better than those TAs

I always thought T/A stood for Traction "A" (as in the traction code/grade was "a").

look at the thread ... it reminds me of something I drove in a cold german winter. but don't get me wrong, they're great for burnouts :-)
