Default Tires...

I want to get rims that are 16x8 and wanted to know if anyone had a good type of tire they knew of thats worked well for them. I am going for a hp summer tire. I am trying to do some research to find a good one but there are always good and bad reviews so I am not sure!!

-thanks!

Michelin Pilot Sports. Most of their high end tires actually, that fits your rim size. Keep in mind a summer only tire sucks in the winter, they're not designed to run on cold roads.

The Sumitomo HTR Z IIs I had were good, but I would recommend any Sumitomo. Price is good too.

I like BFG and the TA series have been good for me. Drag radials are good but wear pretty fast. TA radials if you are looking for a good balance of tread life and decent street performance. Not sure if they have alot in the 16" but they definately have alot of 15" and 17" options. I am running TA radials on my 69 mustang and my son runs them on his 72 charger.

There was a big thread on tires a while back, so you may want to do a search.

Michelin Pilot Sports will be some of the best tires you can get, but they're pricey. Same goes for Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's.

I usually recommend BFG G-Force Sports. They're very affordable and stick fairly well to the road. They even have a good directional tread design for decent wet weather traction. However, Norm (who autocrosses regularly) complains that they will accelerate, turn, or brake well, but not two at the same time.

Sumitomo HTR ZII's and Kumho Ecsta ASX's are some of the best bang for the buck tires around. They're not great tires, but they're cheap enough to where it doesn't usually matter. I had a customer a few years ago who bought HTR ZII's for his sn95 Mustang and thrashed them, then came back and bought a new set the next year. He did this several times.

I heard Kumhos weren't any good. Didn't last long, bad grip, and lots of road noise. And some of the reviews on tire rack weren't that good so I didn't buy them.

The ASX's don't last long and road noise is definitely an issue, but they grip ok for the price. Sumitomo HTR ZII's grip better but wear out even faster.

We have the Michelin Pilot all season on our 97 Cobra. They are great tires. They work very well in the rain too.

I have the BFG TA on my 65. I have never had any issues with them and you can't beat the look on a classic.

sorry. no. there is very few tyres better looking than a BFG radial T/A, but you have to search low and wide to find anything that performs worse.
Those tyres are fantastic for burnouts, but nothing else. no cornering, braking is slipping, accellerating is slipping and on a wet road they are simply dangerous

at least that's my opinion. BFG makes decent tyres as well though. the g-force is supposed to be good but I never driven them
