Question Need flywheel help

I'm putting a T-5 from an '86 GT in my '66 coupe. I need to find a suitable flywheel. Most of the 157 tooth, 28 oz. flywheels are in the $200+ range. My car will just be a street car and will only be putting around 250-270 to the rear wheels.

Since the tranny is from an '86, can I use an '86 flywheel and just have it rebalanced? I know it would clear the bell housing, but would this work with my starter (which I still don't have).

Any help appreciated.

Hmmm… I would think that by the time you got a used 50oz wheel resurfaced, put a new ring gear on it, and had it altered to 28oz you could have bought a new 28oz wheel.

I can get a new '86 5.0 flywheel for $85 from CJ Pony Parts, haven't checked elsewhere but I assume the other vendors would have a similar item at a similar price. I have an old buddy that bought a machine shop a few years back (just ran into him over the weekend) that I could probably con into rebalancing it for cheap.

I guess what I'm really wanting to know is if my starter and such will line up and mesh properly.

Ebay has what you need for under 100 dollars

or

Are you sure the 302 is 28 oz imbalance? 68-80 the 302 used the 28 oz imbalance and 81 and later uses the 50 oz imbalance

Good Luck and BE Safe

Thanks for the links, I don't know why I haven't been able to find those. And yes, the block and crank are '68, so I need the 28 oz. imbalance.

These flywheels are good for the 10 1/2 inch modern diaphragm clutches for the T5 conversion. The bolts that hold the clutch on were Metric on mine, I think 10mm and I got them from ARP.
