Also, I haven't bought new tires yet, I have gone the used tire route. I can get a tire with 70% or more tread left, mounted and balanced for 20-30 bucks depending on the tire. I'm going to try to earn some money around the house or something to at least get 4 GOOD used tires, maybe 225/60/14 in front and 245(or255)/60/14 in the rear. It all depends on what the shops have on hand... I've also considered going to 65 in the sidewall height, the 60% sidewall on a 14" tire seems small, but maybe it's because my car is like a monster truck right now.

I may look into new tires if I can find them for a good price. I just now I need to replace the fronts because of serious dry rotting, I believe the rears are only cracked on the top of the sidewall, but not in between the treads so they should be okay for awhile. I'll give it a better inspection when It's back on all 4 wheels
The problem with used tires is that even though they may look good, they could be several years old. That makes them more prone to being hard and dry rotting. I won't ever buy used tires.

The past 6 months or so I've just dropped the tire pressure down a bit to reduce failure chances. I'll start lookin for some other tires...
Couldn't dropping the pressure actually make the tires run hotter and increase the chances of failure? I would just leave them at about 32 like they are supposed to be. What are you running them at anyway?

around 31-33. When I said drop the pressure I didn't drop them a considerable amount, just a little to make the tires less hard so to speak. This was just the advice of the tire guy. Before I was running around 34-36 psi

Gah... apparently it's hard to get white lettered BF Goodrich tires around here. I'm still looking Didn't want to ruin the look of my car by putting black ones on.

Tire Rack also explains it well here when they got to test drive new tires on the front and the rear at Michelin's Laurens Proving Grounds. The top half explains it well and the bottom half tells about their experience.

Check out this link (Michelin) and read the last question regarding where to install two new tires. That link also includes a 2.5min video Mounting Two Tires.

Just put newer tires with better grip on the rear wheels.

Can always order them through Tire Rack. Raised white letter Radial T/As. I have a local National Tire & Battery (NTB) mount them on the wheels and balance for me. You can either order directly through TR and have shipped to a local shop or price match from a local shop like NTB. If your local shops cant get the white letters just order them direct.

Thats odd. Around here they are easy to get. Have you checked Discount Tire or NTB?

EDIT: I just saw that you found a place.

I always run mine at 32 anyway. Thats what the tire shop sets them at as well. I think max on mine is 35.

Thats interesting. I guess it makes sense. I just would have thought differently.
