Default 69 speedometer cable

Does the speedometer cable on a 69 coupe just unscrew from the back of the instrument cluster or is it held on by nuts?

I'm pretty sure 69 is the first year of the push on end at the speedo head. So no nuts or anything like that.

i have a 70 and theres a plastic clip at the end. you have to pry it up with your fingers and it will pull off. as for getting a new one i had to have a place make one, $60.00 with the proper ends. checker sells them but there about a foot to long.

parts store cables are often too long, to fit many applications- sort-of. Get a proper length cable from a good Mustang supplier.

You don't pull on the clip ring, you push on the big tab on the right side of this picture:

My 69 doesn't even have a clip like that, just pull off, push on. However it's a pain in the ***, Have to use a wrench, screwdriver, whatever to get leverage on the small edge. Maybe if all the parts were new it would be better, when I got my car the cable end was bent to crap

I just did the cable on my 69 coupe a couple months ago and it had the plastic retainer like in the picture. Also they are right on the money about the length. I got what was suppost to be the correct cable at oreileys and it ended up being about a foot too long. I made it work by ziptieing the extra cable under the car but I'd get the right one from a mustang shop if I was you.

This should be the correct way.
