Default Windshield seal???

Ok so i took my car back to the shop for them to fix a huge leak over my radio coming from my windshield seal.

I got it back and was just cleaning the windshield and noticed some black goo on the inside of the trim where the rubber weatherstripping meets the car. Its like all around and it is still wet or movable if I touch it with my finger. It can be seen unless you pull back the chrome trim.

What is this stuff? Should it be there? Did they just throw some black crap all around my windshield seal and call it a day?

P.S. I tested the leak and it wasn't leaking from what I could tell.

That's the same stuff they used when i had my new windshield installed. it will somewhat dry over time, or at least become more tacky. It just means the people that fixed your seal were a little overzealous with the sealant / glue, but better safe than sorry. I used a razor blade to cut as much of it off as i could (did not scrape it off) then scrubbed the rest off.

I was replacing the headliner on my 69 coupe and my front windshield had the same thing. Felt like sticky gum on mine. Mine wasn't leaking and seemed to work fine. I would not worry about it. If you need to clean it off, I used a razor and some goo gone to clean mine off the metal trim piece that it was on and it was pretty easy.

That is actually a good sign. It means that they used the right stuff when sealing your windshield. It is called bedding/glazing compound usually made by 3M. If they used the stuff that dries hard, you would have leaks all over the place and have to take the car back. Trust me, I've had at least 3 different people try to seal mine so far.

It can be cleaned with turpentine or spot cleaner. Make sure you don't use something that will damage the paint.

Id have to see it in person to confirm but it does sound like 3m window ribbon/sealer. Its absolutely GREAT stuff I use it on a lot of headlight projects...works like a charm and is ALWAYS tacky...
