65 Basic Question
Hate to ask this basic question but.... Just bought a 1965 with a 289 and automatic transmission. On the shifter plate for Drive you have a white dot which is the first one then a green dot and then L. Which one do you normally drive in the white dot or the green dot? Sounds stupid, but I don't know. Thanks
Hi,
Welcome to the forums! I have the same setup and drive in the green dot. The white dot is second gear. If you drive in the white dot you will start out in second and up shift once. If you drive in the green dot you will start out in low and up shift twice. The green dot will get you off the line quicker. By the way do you have a console in you stang? I am putting in a console and have some questions.

Hi Soaring,
The problem I have has to do with the shift slide and gear indicator for the A/T. I got the console fitted in ok. I just have a gap between the console shifter plate and the shifter slide and gear indicator. I have about 1/4 in. between the two. Does not look right. I have added some washers to take out some of it. I was trying to get someone with a '65 A/T to tell me what it supposed to look like. I should have looked harder at some of the cars at the stang rally a few months ago.
Thanks, Walt
