Default replacing vert top doable?

Hi,
Was wondering if replacing convertiable top on a '65 is something that can be done by a nonprofessional?
Thx, Walt

If you have the manual, and make the template, and used to built ship models with all the rigging, yeah.

Can't you buy a top that is already cut to fit?

Nope. Tops, and Mustangs, are not that exact. The rear edge controls the fit. All cars have some provision for this- On Corvettes, the front and rear are on exposed moveable bows, so the seam is above the rear window.

Read through the manual on top replacement, quite a bit to do it right. I would shop around and let a pro do it.

The restoration pros I know farm out tops to a nearby top shop. You gotta know when to play, and when to pay.

I used to work at an upholstery shop and we did an occasional top. Working with fabric is an art, and when you put in all the variables involved with a vert top its more like magic. Let a pro do it. that's what I'll be doing next year when I get to that point. LOL
