Cheap heads on ebay. Junk?
I'm looking for some good deals on 302 heads, but don't care to buy junk in doing so. I'm not building a drag car, so perfection isn't an issue, but... What about some of the cheaper ones on Ebay? Procomps, among others, are going for $600 assembled. I know they can't compare to CNC ported AFRs, but, is there any junk out there to really avoid? And if so, why? (Before you call something junk, be prepared to back it up with proof! Sometimes even China gets it right if that applies here at all.
)
Considering MOST of the stuff we own is made from China saying that it instantly sucks is being ignorant. Most of the people still saying this are older guys who were around when only the **** came from China.
Anyways good topic i'll be watching this one for replies. I would say go with some gt40s if you want to stay cheap or just bite the bullet and go for some proven heads. You could find some used on corral.net

Well, at least you can still buy heads that are made in America, for now.
Anyway, this old guy bought a couple Pro Comp heads, but then considered that it didn't make much sense to bolt parts that might break on an otherwise fairly expensive short block.
I bought some good old American made Edelbrock heads that are for sure better than the ok Pro Comps that I gave my son. The 302 these Pro Comps are on runs pretty good, I can't say they the Pro Comps are crap, but time will tell the tale.
I wont ever buy any more so long as there is an American made alternative for a reasonable cost.

I'll preface my response with the fact that I have not purchased a set myself. But, problems have been reported in other forums in casting differences and the quality of valves, guides, valve job etc. Have been reports that chambers can be off by as many as 20cc or more. FWIW....
IMO Cylinder heads and camshaft are the lungs and heart of your engine... do what makes you comfortable...
