Default 351 cleveland numbers

I am restoring a 1973 mustang convertible and am getting ready to start on
the engine.... It is a 351-C That I was told is the original motor that cam in the car, but I would like to know for sure. Can someone let me know what these #'s mean that I got off the block?

All i know is its a 1970 block so its not original to the car. I don't know what the rest means.

The Ford part number system does indeed show that part number as 1970, however, there are MANY part numbers that begin being used in a particular year and that part number remains the same until it is changed.

The date code does not seem correct, but IT seems to indicate that the block was cast in 1973. What is the date code of the car itself?

not sure about the date code on the car...the doors had already been replaced
and the door tag was long gone. Which number is the one that indicates when the
block was cast?

as above the block is 1970 type, not necessarily cast in 1970.

date codes are 3 letter or 4letter
(http://www.carburetion.com/fordnumber.htm),

can you check on that again ?

your number does not make much sense. the other way around makes more sense:
3k29 would be "1973, 29th Oct"

kalli,

you were correct...I did have the number wrong... it is 9K23....

So i guess the date code means 1969 Oct 23rd? should the date code
be the same year as the car or did they put engines in that were made
in previous years? would it be safe to say this is not original for my 73

yes it's 69 or 79, but if it's 79 there would be a better chance the block starting with D3, D5 or even higher. so should be 1969 Oct 23rd.
i would say it's highly unlikely that an engine build in 69 made it into a 73 model car (even if it were produced in 72 already). i would expect 2 months difference max, not yerars

Cleveland engines were only made from 1970 to 1973 and some made there way into early production 1974 cars. Check the VIN number on the dash it will tell you what engine came in the car.
