Exclamation 65 Mustang D Code Engine Swap Help

Hey guys haven't been on here in forever but I finally found some money to put in this seemingly bottomless pit to finish the restoration. So here what I got. Im getting a 302 Roller and looking to swap it into the mustang. It has everything on there for efi and has the original distributor. Now Im looking to put a edelbrock 650 on it, and some headers. What off a original 289 4v can i swap over and what. Anything i need to know before i attempt this swap? Also i was given a transmission from my shop teacher at school and it is a C4 out of a 75 Maverick but it is for a v6 Cause i blew up the c4 in the stang. Is there any difference besides the bell housing between the two cause i have yet to pull the 289/C4 out of the stang and i was told if it doesnt fit that it might be possible to rebuild the one in the stang with the parts out of the maverick tranny. Help please I'm only in highschool and dont have a whole lot of money so every penny counts.

Almost everything.

You'll need to change the gear on the distributor.

That's right. The "64" was the last year of the 5-bolt bellhousing. 65-up is 6 bolt.

in addition to that the crank pulley on the 302 might be 4 bolt and the one on the 289 3 bolt. so make sure you get the pulleys from the 302 as well

No, the gear needs only changed if you use the 289 distributor on a roller cam engine.

You'll need a "5.0 conversion" damper to swap over all the pulleys, brackets, accessories from your 289. No biggie, it bolts on.

For the trans you'll need a 65 or later C4 6-bolt bell. Common item.

that sums it up. check the bellhousing bolt pattern first though. no idea if engine and gearbox are original. the 6bolt bellhousing is the one you need
