AOD Swap questions
I'm in the process of installing an AOD from a '92 Mustang LX into my '67 convertible.
So far, I've pulled the motor and transmission and worked on cleaning up the engine bay and dressing up the motor. I've also ordered a kit to do the transmission conversion.
I had the transmission rebuilt and bought a new torque converter. It currently has no fluid in it. How much fluid will I need? And what type of fluid (I don't think its Type F)? Do I start by pouring some straight into the converter? Or just pour it all down the filler tube a little at a time?
I've seen pictures of how to connect the TV cable to the carb, but not the transmission. Can someone post a picture of how the TV cable hooks to the tranny? I'm at work and don't have a picture of my transmission, but all I remember seeing is a single arm for the shift linkage.
Thanks.

The trans takes 6 1/2 quarts and depending on what converter, a 10" takes 3 quarts and a 11" takes 3 1/2 quarts. Use the type F if the trans is a new rebuild cuz its a better fluid!!! You can mix them but the Mercon is just plain old Dextron. Ford decided to buy that fluid instead of making their own so save money in the 80's. Pour about 2 quarts in the converter, hope you have time cuz it takes a while! Make sure when you put it in, it engages "3" times!!!!!!!!! You have to engage the small input shaft, then the stator (big) shaft and then the pump (2 tags). If not, you'll fry the trans or won't be able to get it in cuz it'll hit the flexplate first. As for the TV cable, I saw something on You Tube about how to set it all up. That is the easiest way. I don't have any pics, sorry.
The Type F is used in most of the racing industry. All the Hi-po trans rebuilders use it because it is a thinner fluid with better additives. Ford just decided to save money and buy the dextron from GM so that is why it says dextron/mercon. With the F fluid, it inproves the shift (firmer) and lubes better.
