Default Tire Width

Guys,
Im in the market for a new set of Mag 500's. I want to go with 15's(I have discs in the front and am considering them for the rear). What Im not sure of is Wheel/Tire width. Im looking at 225/60's on 7" wheels for the front and was thinking 245/60s on 8" inch rims for the back. Looking at CJ's kits, they offer a 275/60 for the back. I was wondering if anyone was running that size wheel/tire combo and if they have any rub issues with it. I have a basically stock suspension setup on my 70 fastback. Thanks for any help/insight in advance.

i wouldnt put a 275 on an 8" rim.

also remember the 60 is the percentage of width - 225/60 means about a 5.4" sidewall. 275/60 will have a 6.6" sidewall or more than 2 inches taller overall. IMO it will look odd unless you really want that early 70s dragster look.

why dont you shop around for the rims (try jegs, summit, npd for example) and get the tyres fitted locally - at least you'll get some service on them.

aye. 225/60R15 are 25.6" tyre diameter. 275/60 are 28"

for the tyre width i'm not sure. recommended for 275/60R15 is 7.5 - 9.5 in wheel

Guys thanks for the input.

Aussie, Thanks for pointing out the width percentage. I checked several sites including those you listed. Jeg's was cheapest but they are on back order until August. Summit is next followed by CJ.

Norm,
Thanks for the link to the chart. Great piece of info.

I think I will go ahead and order the wheels from summit and get my local shop to do the tires.
