How modern is your radio? I considered the electric one but think I'm going to put the am/fm hidden ant. in the trunk, they use them on boats, etc. as I don't listen to FM much anymore. I plan to install a satellite radio ant. in place of the telescopic one for a cleaner look and that's what I listen to mostly. No worries of it catching on anything and my radio is set up for it. I'll probably pic one up at the JY off a newer mustang, here's a pic of the one on my wife's '09 that would go with the '67 body lines I think unless I spot a better looking one (more low profile).

In 35 years of driving my 66, I have broken the antenna twice, once when run off the road by a truck, and once when I got stupid with a car cover. No 'bending' of the fender occurred either time. Oh, and that's a total of 400,000 miles. I wouldn't consider that something to worry about 'messing' with.

If two incidents in over three decades is too much trouble, use an electric retractable.

Looks like a nice unit, does your radio have a power feed to make it go up/down as the radio/ignition goes on/off or will you need to install a manual switch?

I'd check the reception quality on that before doing any welding.

When I installed years ago, those amplified ones never worked well. They would amplify static and not really filter.
Jon has a good idea, if you are just going with satellite radio you have tons of options.
I have a solid mast that twists off at the bottom, so for a car cover etc. I just twist it off. I also like the ones that push all the way in the fender.

My biggest issue is the breaking of the antenna not the fender damage. When I got the car it was broken and shortly after putting a new one on it magically was broken one day after school. They are flimsy and easily broken. I just didn't want to worry about that. I'll stick with the stainless whip antenna. Its simple.
