The antenna on this show car was $20. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes to install if you already have the hole.

Red face Re: Antenna

I was thinking more like either an electric retractable one (which costs about $85.00 i think) or get one of those "hidden" modern ones that have a lot of reaching power and you can't see them ,but then , how can i cover the hole of the old one? should i weld it shut when the car gets painted next year? hide it and paint it with bondo? or plug it? i don't want any water to seep in later . i am tired of the old factory one that makes a hole of the cover, have low reach and may get bent/pulled by a scumbag out there , as happenned to a few of my friends.

I would just leave the antenna in the stock location. What I did was upgrade to a stainless whip antenna like the stock one on most newer cars. I have one with the rectangle base from a 70s Granada. I don't like the old solid mast type. They easily get broken and can bend the fender if they get bend or broken. This is one of the few OEM parts that I really just do not like.

If your really set on changing the antenna, you could put a power one on the rear fender. My friend has a 67 fastback and relocated the antenna there. Its kinda cool with the power antenna.

Which is it? An easily broken antenna won't bend the fender – ask me how I know. A much stronger solid one might. The 64-68 antenna is not solid. The originals were chrome-plated brass telescopic tubes. The one in the photo is stainless.

I have seen cars that had any of the three things happen. The antenna was bent or broken, or the fender was slightly deformed from something happeneing to the antenna. Most of the time they are just broken, and I don't want to have to mess with it.

What do you mean by lazy car wash. You don't take your car to the automated wash with the brushes do you? You can still go to the pay and spray washes.
