Default Help decoding my rear differential tag and some advice?

Hey guys-

Been lurking for awhile and I just recently picked up a '66 fastback that I'm going to do a little build on.

We pulled the rear axle today and I'm wondering is someone can help me decode the tag?

C70W 4025A 21

I don't know if this is the stock rear but I suspect it may not be.

Trying to decide if it's worth keeping for my build. I'm not building a monster. More of a cruiser - mild crate engine and 5 speed manual. There's a good shop here in Austin that could re-gear it for me if I decided to keep it.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks. But I'm not looking to decode the data plate. I'm trying to decode the number on the diff. tag.

Those numbers don't even seem to correspond to any Ford axle code, which usually starts with a "W". The tag on my 65's axle for instance shows WCZ-F(8", 3.00:1, non-locking, 28 spline).

Check this site, and see for yourself. I scrolled through all 17 pages of tag codes, and found nothing that matches the numbers you have...

http://www.fordification.com/tech/rearends_ford01.htm

I'm not sure, but that may not even be a Ford axle...???

Hey this might help you out. Go to www.mustangtek.com they got all kinds of numbers for ford parts. It looks like you have 67 axles from a fairlane or torino. hope this helps.

but like andrew said. take a picture of it, check if it's locking and check what hear ratio it is yourself. don't trust any tags ...

C7OW-A is a 67-up 8" casting code, and tells us almost nothing except it's a 67 or later 8".
