Default Getting started and getting knowledgable

hello,

I have been reading this forum for a week or so and am impressed by the knowledge of the contributors here.

I have 67 GT that has been sitting about 15 years that I want to get back on the road for say weekend driving.

I would be glad for any education or materials you guys want to point out.

First thing I was going to look at is the carb. I have a 2nd one that I can put in there but was thinking about rebuilding the first (and replace that 2nd one later).

Where can I find some good solid (but understandable to a newbie) info on car rebuilding?

Thanks in advance
Looking forward to learning and eventually contributing more here.

Default Edit:

I don't see in this forum where you can edit a post. Please let me know if this is possible (ought to be).

That should have been rebuild carb. I am thinking of rebuidling one carb while I leave a 2nd one on the mustang.

What books would you recommend (I have seen plenty but was hoping there was say the one everyone uses)? Are there some good carb rebuild instructions out there (or does some one know it well enough to writ it out?

First Book you'll want to buy is the 1967 FORD Shop Manual (pic below). All the vendors carry and sell them both in paper and digital disk form. I highly suggest you get the paper book. IMO its easier to grab the book and rest it in the engine bay or on the floor under the car or have it next to you while your upside down under the dash, etc then a digital version. Others disagree of course.

Next, visit a few vendor websites like NPD, Glazier's, etc and request their catalogs which are usually free. Personally I'd suggest you at least order 1 from NPD as its full color, 1 of the largest part vendors, and it's very well laid out. I simply found it was the best viewing catalog out there. Of course price shop once you know what your after.

You can now use the shop manual to disassemble, reassemble and/or maintain anything on the car and a few catalogs to help price things out.

What exactly does the car need? What kind of shape and condition is it in? With a shop manual and a good vendor you can actually rebuild the complete car.

Post a few pics of the car as it sits now, including exterior, interior and engine bay shots. Everyone here loves pics! It also helps us see what you have and can help with suggestions.

I 2nd Adrenolin on the shop manual he posted, wish I'd bought it the first day I got the car, wasted money buying the Chiltons first and it's generically useless almost. I use my shop manual weekly and keep all my notes in it for what I've changed, wts., measurements, part#'s, dates, etc. so it's my one stop source.

To edit your post, look at the bottom right corner for the 'edit' button
If you're anywhere near Asheville NC there is a natl. MCA show going on at the Biltmore on labor day weekend in 2 wks. The hosting club is www.BRMCOA.org.
I'll be there with the wifes '09.

get a subscription to mustang monthly,
http://www.mustangmonthly.com/index.html

You'd be surprized how often you'll see a tech article on something you are doing, or intend to do. Last, if at all possible find a mustang parts shop near you to purchase your parts, shipping costs can get rediculous.

Adrenolin said it right. I can't add much to what he said. And as others have mentioned, feel free to post up pictures, as many as possible. You can get a lot more help and answers when everyone knows what exactly you're dealing with.
