Default 67 Mustang Alignment

On my sons 67 Mustang he has a square plate with two asymmetric holes for adjusting the camber. The alignment shop is telling me I need to convert it to a cam bolt in order to get the alignment in tolerance. does anyone know if this is a fact or not?

thanks in advance

This will give you the specs to align it too:

I've never sen anything but a cam bolt, 3B236, in there. Newer vehicles often have a square-sided cam bolt, which needs to be changed to a round cam for more accurate work, you sure they actually looked under the car before they told you this? You can see it for yourself.

It's called an eccentric eliminator. It allows adjustment of the camber in approx 1/2* increments. Between that and thin upper arm shims you can adjust the camber in about 1/4* increments.

If your alignment shop can't figure out how the eccentric eliminator works, find a different alignment shop, because they're pretty easy to figure out when you look at them. If someone thinks you can't align a car that has the eccentric eliminator plate, then they don't really understand how suspension/alignment works.

And just fyi, the purpose of the eccentric eliminator plates is because eccentrics can slip under heavy cornering loads because the washer is round. The square plates are locked in place between the 2 eccentric stops.

True- That's why racers use them. Maybe that's how they ended up on your car.

I have the eccentric eliminators on mine. I actually had an eccentric slip before, which it usually does while going around a corner, and you come out the other side with like + or - 3* of camber.
