Default Steering box broke?

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and this right here would be my first post. Anyways, about a week ago i was driving my 1967 Ford Mustang and when i was making a turn the car spun out off control as i tried to center the steering wheel again. The steering wheel was to the left (it was a left turn) and when i started to turn it to the right it was not responding and suddenly makes a 180 turn. Luckily i didn't hit anything and ever since then i have been hearing a cracking sound coming from the steering box(I think). A buddy of mines told me to replace the steering box, but im not quite sure if thats the problem cause Ive had someone steer it back and forth and it seems fine. i would appreciate any suggestions, thanks. (sorry for the long post, just trying to provide details)

Number one--Do not drive the car. Have it loaded on a roll back, transport to the nearer Mustang shop, have it throughly looked at.

Either the Box Bearing spit out the ***** (A Case of some idiot tightening the adjust screw on the box to "Tighten the Steering" or the ball stud has let go from use, the Idler stud coming loose from the centerlink, on and on.

Have someone turn the wheel while it's resting on the ground and look at the steering shaft going into the box, and the pitman arm, so if the shaft turns but not the arm. Also put your hand on the box while they turn it, if it's grinding you'll hear and feel it.
