Brake light switches do ware out and have to be changed from time to time. If its not working make sure you are getting power to it. If its getting fire try changing it out.

I'm on my third one in 14 years of ownership. The news ones don't last. They just don't make them like they used to.

After changing the brakes and mc. the brake light sometimes stays on and runs the battery down. I think I need to unhook the rod from the mc. and file it down where it goes through the brake light switch.

I'd much rather modify or replace the switch than the rod. But then, my 66 still has the original switch, with about 400,000 miles on it. So far, so good.
