Like Jon said.

Shims rides atop bolt threads. Between shock tower and UCA's inner shaft.

I realize you stated it has Factory Power steering, which if totally stock, will have the 4 turn steering box. On the 67, it could be a SMB B, SMB-K, SMB-J box.

If someone in the cars life has added the lower power steering to acquire power steering, didn't change the box, then the box will be the 5 turn SMB-A, SMB-D Box.

When the Manual steering 5 turn box is used with the Hydraulics/power in the power steering, the steering is VERY Easy to turn.

The reason is simple Gear ratios-Leverage. A 4 turn box has Less Gear, a 5 turn has more gear to help turn the front end. Putting the power assist, with the box with more Gear, you get a very easy to turn system.

This may not be the cause, and you have received some quality advice from the other Folks, Just another thing to check.

Good point:

If 6:1 box is in car instead of 5:1 box then it would be super duper sensitive. Suppose you could count steering wheel turns lock to lock so long as it kisses both stops.

Unlikely, but if incorrect smaller pump pulley on OP car then also super easy to turn.

If steering wheel not centered to factory shaft mark you must use puller to remove steering wheel after you remove 15/16" nut.
got it off the spring gave me a heart attack...... now where is that factory mark?

There's my vote for understatement of the year. YES that is VERY dangerous, on any turn or at any time the wheel could break free from the center and you'll be holding a wheel not attached to anything. If you're turning at the time, lets say onto a hwy, you're screwed.

Replace that steering wheel before driving again.

Can use a steering wheel puller after remove 15/16" nut.

Mark should be on end of shaft. I could not see it on the fuzzy picture.

Been driving those cracked wheels for years...don't know about danger.

If no mark visable you must base wheel center on pitman arm position.

Looks like nut not seated.

I cant seem to find one online but years ago I installed a little bypass valve between the high pressure and low pressure PS hoses off the pump, when you open the valve it cuts down the amount of power assist you get, it worked very well.

i had removed the nut so it wasnt on tight.

it takes 2 turns till lock in one direction.

this bypass idea seems easy/effective

would i be able to use say a plumbing valve and close it slightly?

edit: the driving is pretty bad, could be that the roads next to my house are covered in snow and have a pothole every 3 feet, can barley keep the car straight O.o. im pretty sure a few people thought i was drunk. the tiniest correction i make is magnified like 10 times in turns of movement.
is 2 turns in each direction normal?
