does it make sound w/ starter only?

does it make sound while engine running?

is sound once per revolution?

do you suspect bent crank shaft?

did you inspect top of bell for crack?

is it bleeding?

is it high pitch fan rubbing kinda noise or a deeper rod knock kinda noise?

hard to diagnose sounds w/o hearing them.

try to find collision witness mark.

Default So Funny

My 17 year old on said the same thing abouthe Dukes and ours fell 8 inches and sounds like that.

does it make sound w/ starter only? While cranking and after starting.

does it make sound while engine running? yes

is sound once per revolution? not sure

do you suspect bent crank shaft? certainly hope not

did you inspect top of bell for crack? Yes. no visible crack

is it bleeding? not a leak

is it high pitch fan rubbing kinda noise or a deeper rod knock kinda noise? just a screech. Fairly high pitch. Never heard anything like it. would compare to starting the car while it is altready running but worse.

Did you try removing the transmission inspection plate, the cover on the lower front of the transmission nearest the oil pan?

If you can safely get under the car with it running, use the old "dowel to the ear" method to isolate the knock. Start at the trans and work your way forward. The old timers could tell you exactly which rod or lifter was knocking, you should at least be able to isolate it a part of the drive line.

Default no power steering

No power steering. Will try and remove starter tomorrow. The noise is so bad I do not even let it run for more than a couple seconds

I have to think bent oil pan, just a little bend in the rear area will cause the crank to hit the bottom of the pan. My brother in law did that with his new engine, he did not mention the oil pan impact before he shipped the engine all the way back to NC...

It only had a little bend, but it made a big noise.

And yea, RAMPS SUCK....

Default oil pan

I will jack it up and check the oil pan first before pulling the starter. So a crease at the rear will cause that much noise ? WOW. Definitely willl take a look.

Pull the wire off the coil, put your hand on the pan and crank. You'll know right away if that is the issue.
