How do I convert to a folding rear seat?
This may have already been discussed, but if it has I cannot find it....
I have a 1971 Mach 1 without the folding rear seat. When I have the car apart I would love to install a folding rear seat, but I do not know how hard it will be to do, and I cannot find an actual folding seat to install.
Has anyone done this conversion before? If so, how did you go about it?
Thanks!

Actually, you already have the folding seat. The seat itself was the same either way. What you don't have is the rear quarter trim panels, trunk door, and brackets to eliminate the package tray and make the seat functional. The 71-73 fold-down seat is pretty rare, IIRC less than 1/10th of 71-73 fastbacks had the fold-down seat. Nothing is reproduced for them (ecxept the latches, which were almost identical to the 69-70) so you'll have to find it all used, from someone stripping an original fold car. Call the usual sources for used parts (Glazier/Nolan, Perogie, etc.) and start haunting ebay.

Follow this link, it's what you need:

Someone posted this for me a few years back. I haven't done my fold down seat conversion yet but it is one of my near future projects.

What year is that a picture of? Does anyone know of a source of pictures or drawings for the 1917-1973 Mustangs? I am finding lots of parts and information for up to 1970, but very little for 1971.

That pict looks the same as my 71 (which orig came that way).
It's definatly not worth the trouble. You hear noise from the trunk, the door and seat latches rattle and there's no good place for quality speakers. Speakers sound great in a stock package tray because the trunk acts as a speaker box.
So unless it's your only car and you're going to carry 2x4s from Home Depot, it doesn't really have much purpose.
