Looking at buying a 71 Mach 1. What to watch out for?

Thanks Wade

I'm closer than you actually, haha

You probably won't like it but here:

New fenders, some rust work, rotisserie resto, new interior and it's golden (ok, not quite, but all I'm saying is it's not bad for the price. Most people would say it's too far gone... not for me! ). Of course that's not cheap. That's a lot of work if you pay a shop though, I'd do it myself though. Not because I'm good at it, cause it'd be my only choice!

Thanks for posting the Link Chip. Actually I agree it is not a bad deal. I am not crazy about the 73's but atleast the motor is still assembled and running. I will see where I get with this one on ebay first.

Ok here is what the owner of the car sent me today. How dificult is cowl work? I have a shop up here that charges $50 per hour.

"Okay, here we go, I met with my body / metal man and here is his report:
Front Cowl needs replacing
Fender inners will need work
Supports all look good
Trunk pan and floor pans bad as is always the case, per him!
Rear quarters both sides good
Both doors look good need some cosmetic body work but are good
Roof good
Front left fender bad, front rite needs patch panel
Sport mirrors good
Shock towers good
under carriage frame, torque boxes, supports, good

Wade it seems most of the metal work needed is in the front area, from the doors back
the metal is in good shape. I'm sure you could see that from the pictures."

It's on Dynacorn's to-do list, but about a year overdue.

When I spoke to them, I was told the non-AC 71-73 cowl was scheduled for last spring (this conversation was 2 years ago). It might help if people bugged their "Ask Joe" about it, nothing like customer demand to get a project moved up the priority list.

Tedious. The 64-68 cowl is attached with 154 spot welds. If seeing a car with the cowl off is not scary, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the pic. Actually does not look to bad but I am not sure that I will be doing this if I get the car. I may farm this out to the local shop to do. I am not a welder. I can weld but not to the degree that this would need. Not to mention if it has to be fabbed I would be over my head.

I guess right now it just boils down to how much am I willing to bid on this car. Looks like me and one other person are interested in it.
