Default Inner rocker Q:

Test fit my inner rocker and found that it changes dimensions as it passes the door under the dash. My replacement is a constant 6" what should I do?

Thanks!!!

You have two options, take it back, or , cut the excess. It looks like the widest point is 6", and the piece you have is 6...." This is where they use the term..."some massaging may be necessary, no piece is a perfect fit"... go to other webpages and see if the inner rockers they sell are staggered as should be.

btw, grind the zinc off real good or your welds arent gonna stick. just did my outer rocker and discovered you have to have perfectly clean metal around those rockers for a good weld.

Thousands of cars have been repaired with the mis-match you are seeing from brake-formed rockers such as those you have. If you can't live with the mis-match shown below, return them and make sure you buy the die-stamped Dynacorn inner rockers.

Im doing the same crap now.....i didnt get to that part yet but you should just cut some off top and bottom, share the difference. your not gonna get the exact fit you want.

in the meanwhile, can you do me a huge favor and post some pics of the rear where the rocker panel meets the wheel arch? im about to cut my inner rocker out. I started drilling out the spot welds from the in-out.

also can you send me a few pics of the front where the inner rocker meets the torque box? im planning to change my torque boxes. never took on a job like this on my own and need all the pics i can get.

was also thinking, hold a level peice of metal, if you have a large measuring stick of some sort on the bottom to see if the bottom has been hit upwards. hold it from the back front and see if there is a 1/4 inch gap and if so, you can bend the bottom back down from in out.

Same issue when I did my passenger side. I ended up keeping the top lip even and letting the lower edge slope down. Had problem though putting eith torque box. Had to massage them to flatten out section that attached to rocker since rocker was lower. I'll post some picts on how it came out - not too crazy about it. If I knew dynacorn had a better fitting peice I would have went with that.

The driver side I decided to replace the inner and outer together. Once you get the inner out not much holding he outer. Turned out much better. Only issue is that you have to have a jig to make sure its all lined up.

I have been working on my car for 3 years now, slowly slowly, i had it painted last year and thought i was left with just the interior. Then when fitting the seat belt i noticed some fiberglass under the car and then i went all crazy and discovered that the dude who had the car before me was a boat expert so instead of fixing the rust he just did a layer of fiberglass all over it.

anyway now im doing my car backwards. Paint is nice on the out and i have to freakin cut out the rocker panels from the in. im doing my car on the ground just going to lift each wheel and let it rest on some 12 inch solid wood blocks. would i have to reinforce the car since its a vert? or would the outer rocker panels hold the car together. i am doing one side at a time....

DO one side at a time, worst side first. Support the car in multiple places to make sure the car is the right shape when you are done.

My support . And glad I had it as my skill (what little i had) got worse as the nights got late.

My rear section. Not easy. I will cut that belt restrant panel ( don't have a better word for it) off on the other side. This would allow for much needed room. I used my plasma cutter to slowly chop away at this section ( would guess 3 HR of work here). I will be replcing my rear framerail and torque box on the left side as well keep that in mind as you look at my hack job. Hope this helps. Keep me posted on your progress. I'm glad to know someone else is out there doing this too.

Thaks for all the help everyone. This forum has some mustang rock stars!
