Default t5 shaft input question

Hi, just wondering what the input shaft length is on the t5 from a 5l mustang. is the input shaft shorter or longer on a 5l t5 compared to a 4 banger t5. thanks

I think they are the same, just the 4cyl isn't rated to withstand as much horsepower.

I was to the understanding that the 2.3L 4 banger t5's had a smaller diameter input shaft with say 20 something splines. The 5.0 has a larger diameter input shaft with 10 splines.

Here is a link to a T5 ID chart. It apears that the 4 banger trans has a longer shaft and is smaller where it goes into the pilot bearing. Hope it helps. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...p/index2.shtml

I found a t5 from a 94 mustang 5L. Can I just change the input shaft to make it work with my 87 bellhousing and clutch fork. Will this work. Thanks.

you can but youd be better off selling it and just buying a 87-93 tranny....or keeping it and buying a 94-95 bellhousing and the shifter will be easier to reach and centered properly in the hole in the floor...

We already put it in the car like that, seems to line up fine. I am just worried because there was no play in the input shaft (back and forth). Just wondering if there should be play in there?
