Why don't you restore it to close to original specs instead? Taking an original 67-68 FB and turning it into another "eleanor", It's just not what I would do.

Here is the only "Licensed" shop to create "Eleanor Mustangs". They actually got licensing from Warner Brothers and Chip Foose.

http://www.classic-recreations.com/

The price, over $100k if they supply the car. You may can get a better deal if they are not doing a full out car with engine, tranny, etc. They are cool guys. I heard an interview a few years ago.

$7k...I would be VERY skeptical.

Why don't you guys quit telling him what you would or wouldn't do and just answer his questions and concerns. Let the guy do what he wants. It is his car, right? Geeeee wiz, guys!

And for the record, Classic Recreations was licensed by Denice Halicki to build the "licensed" Eleanors and Carroll Shelby for the GT500CR cars. Warner Brothers had nothing to do with it, neither did Foose.

I just wanted to clear that up.

My mistake. I just re-listened the the interview with Jason Engel of Classic Recreations. He did say they are licensed by the movie studio that produced Gone in 60 Seconds. I thought he said Warner Brothers, but I guess it was Halicki. You can listen to the interview if you subscribe to The Musclecar Place podcast. It is the 8/20/2009 episode. He did say that he worked with Toby Halicki's widow, Denice, so I guess she made the decision. He did mention that the first production car went to her.

FYI, they Classic Recreations is based in Oklahoma.

Quote from Kingshawn:
Also when i am washing the car water leaks into the trunk do you know what i can do?
what is a good place to buy car parts from? and do you know what i can do to have better handling?

I like the 68 Eleanors, if there done right.

To address your other questions:
Your trunk could be leaking from the trunk gasket or window. If you have a fold down seats, crawl into the trunk with a flashlite while someone runs a hose on the trunk.

Improving handling is a loaded question. The stock setup wasn't great to begin with,
but a alignment shop that specializes in old cars, can locate the bad parts and likely can improve it. It still won't handle like a newer car though.

If you really want good handling, there are many kits to completly modernize the front
suspension, disk brakes and to add rack & pinion steering. Bring lots of money. Mustang Monthly magazine has lot of ads for the kits. If you're on a tight budget though, I would definatly do this instead of spending it on Eleanor parts.

If this is the same Rebel Mustang im thinking of in La Habra, that guy has junk parts.I have NEVER seen him with anything nice. What was the name of the shop he referred you to?

Thanks ill look into the trunk and ill let you know once i fix the problem. As far as the kit goes im stiil researching and thinking about what I want to do. Rebel mustangs is just so much cheaper. But if the shop installs it do you guys think it will look really cheap and will easily crack? Or the problem is just the fitment will take much longer?

I get my parts locally, from Glazier/Nolan Mustang Barn. Huge catalog.

As for handling, see below.

You can get a startling improvement very cheap with this modification. Anyone who doesn't do this is not serious about handling:

Yeah I told Shawn over PM that $7k is way cheap and probably wouldn't look good. But I definitely think an Eleanor would be sick. I'm really tired of all the haters "OH NO ANOTHER ELEANOR!!!". Seriously, I think this discussion has been made before, but I've NEVER seen one in person. They're not THAT common. Just because everyone likes them doesn't mean everyone has one. And just because a few people hate the idea doesn't mean it's a bad one.

I suggested the Bullitt '68 fastback cause it's similar to the FB he's got, and it'd be an easier way to go. He could spend more money on the suspension, get a clean paint job, debadge the car, and maybe even drive it like a maniac in San Fransisco!

To be honest, I think that's exactly what I would do if I had a '68 Fastback... so maybe I'm biased....

You get what you pay for, you know?
My old man is convinced I only need to pay like $700-900 for a paint job. I stared him in the eye and said "I'm not repainting this car in a year or two".
I might could understand the $7k for the body kit, fitment, and primer. But not WITH the paint job. I'd say $10k would get you all that, maybe.

I'd also like to know if this is the same shop "Iskwezm" is talking about. If it is, it sounds like a crappy shop. Don't give crappy shops your work or money. You'd be better off doing this on your own.

All in all this is YOUR car Shawn! Everything is up to you. Just don't cut corners, they may lead to disaster. I remember you telling me you saved up for a long time for this. I think you'll be much happier with a clean, nice car no matter which route you go, as opposed to a car with crappy work done by a half-assed shop.
