anybody close to me
i was hoping someone that lives close to Texas City, tx. would be willing to come give me a helping hand at getting my 66 to start. I tried my hand at rrebuilding the carb and i guess i did something wrong cause now i can get it to start but it runs rough and spits out white smoke. It wont stay running unless i keep the gas on. I tried adjusting the carb but i dont really know what i am doing. Im about to pull the last 3 hairs i have left out.
Please help

Oh im absolutely willing to pay for the gas.
I can get it to start but it wont stay running unless i keep giving it the gas. As soon as i let off the pedal it dies. It runs rough and white smoke out the back.
It ran fine before i pulled the carb. I just wanted to rebuild it cause it hadnt been done and it looked like it had never been done. plus the choke wasnt opening after warm up.
Its a newly rebuilt motor so it must be something with the carb. Im guessing.
I know this is the kind of thing that is hard to troubleshoot without being there but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With the exception of the white smoke I am inclined to think a vac leak. A bad (really bad) PCV valve could cause ALL of these issues......
You might try totally blocking the pcv hose as a troubleshoot help.

I would concur with the vacuum leak issue. Obviously something could have been reassembled incorrectly. However its more likely a leak. It might be from an incorrect carb->intake gasket. An easy way to check would be to get it running and then spray WD 40 around the base and see if it revs up. If so, that is where your vac leak is coming from.
