My AOD has been in my '67 and running for 10 months now with Type-F fluid in it. No issues (yet).

I use to run type F in GM turbo 350's in which I'd put a shift kit (Shift Improver Kit). It was recommended in the B&M instructions to either use type F or their pricey Trick Shift brand.

I do not have AOD, but I did a quick search on the subject and the overwhelming consensus seems to not use type F. Before you damage something, I would double check to be sure.

I have probably 2000 miles on it. I'd think I'd be having troubles by now. But it was something I never was too sure about. When I posted my question (a year ago), only one person answered. He seemed to know what he was talking about (but we know how that can get us into trouble). Plus, other posters stating they use Type F in hopped up Chevys makes me more confident.

Bauman seems to know a lot about transmissions, in their literature is states "Regarding AOD-E/4R70W Transmissions ...you should never use Type F fluid...as this will damage the converter clutch and other transmission components. Do not be concerned about the inability to use Type F fluid in your transmission, as Type F is actually an inferior fluid whose antiquated formulation is suitable only for use in farm machinery."

The question really comes down to how much difference is the aod vs the 4R70W, when it comes to the clutches I don't believe their is a difference. Personally I'd dump the F and change it to Mercon/Dextron III. 2000 miles is nothing, would you be happy if it smoked at 4000?

the 4r70w is an electronic version of the AOD like the AODE but with a slightly wider gear set...Type F doesnt got in an AOD,AODE, or 4R70W

Sounds like I might be stopping by a few transmission shops to ask questions. Inquiring minds want to know...
