I know it is not the correct carb but it is all I have at the moment and more importantly it works. When I am able to I will be getting a new carb.
Is there anything I can do about the shifting? I just need to be able to drive it to a shop without it breaking my transmission. It stays in first for way to long and when it shifts it is really rough. Adjust the Vac modulator?

 

did you check your tranny fluid? use power shifting see if that works, eg shift it into 2nd manually then into drive.

 

Yea I have enough fluid. Check it before I ran it and after I ran it, warm.
1st and 2nd manual work fine. I do not know what happens if I were to drive in 1st then 2nd then drive. I will try it as long as it doesn't cost me any money
The car was shifting exactly how it should but then while I was driving my kickdown got knocked off and after I put it back on it does not shift right. If I take it off it appears to shift better but then I do not have a kickdown....

Sounds like the kickdown needs adjusting badly. Also check to see if the vacuum modulator is connected, with no leaks.

Meanwhile, if the car is not the correct size or jetting, it'll run lousy. Make this a high-priority item.

 

Ok. It started pouring here out of nowhere but the vac modulator is connected. No leaks. I could not see a way to adjust that?
How do I adjust the kickdown? I read an article saying this.
1. pull kickdown off of the carb.
2. set the gas pedal to WOT.
3. looking down the carb, adjust the accelerator linkage until the throttle plates are straight up/down.
4. adjust the kickdown linkage so that it is fully engaged, while the carb is at WOT.
5. Place the kickdown linkage back on the carb
6. remove weight from gas pedal
If someone can confirm this I will try it. I would like confirmation from someone here first though Never can trust somethings online.

 

Your procedure should work.

The modulator, if adjustable, has a screw inside the connecting tube. Don't mess with this unless you read up on it, first.
